My research extends across person- organizational- and population perspectives on the prerequisites for, and care in long-term and life-limiting illness and old age. My main research areas are: I) aspects of the body and bodily care in long-term and life-limiting illness; II) quality of, and equal access to, adequate end-of-life care in the context of long-term illness and ageing; and III) interventions and systematization of models that promote person-centred communication and information in life-threatening illness, for example cancer. Of particular interest is vulnerable groups.
In recent years, the place for end-of-life care and death has become at focus. I am scientific leader of a research program on the significance of care place during the last period of life. The programme takes its´ starting point in a public health palliative care perspective. By combining policy and total population research with studies of individuals’ needs and experiences. Our goal is to generate population-level relevant knowledge of significance for development and implementation of sustainable strategies that strengthen well-being and quality in end-of-life and dying for all in need thereof, regardless of care place and other individual, disease-related or socioeconomic factors.
