I am a dentist trained in Uganda, with a masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, a masters degree in Public Health, and since 2023 a doctoral student at Sophiahemmet University.
The doctoral education is a combination of research and teaching responsibilities within the bachelors in nursing programme at Sophiahemmet University.
I have more than 15 years of work experience in the field of dentistry, both within private and government-owned practices , and in low- and high-income countries. The advanced studies within Epidemilogy and Public health were essential to gain research skills for a better understanding of diseases beyond their clinical presentations, and as a foundation for doctoral education.
My doctoral research project is based on the Sustainable University Life (SUN) cohort of 4,262 university students, and is about the comorbidity between fucntion-limiting musculoskeletal problems and psychological distress. The overall aim of the project is to increase the knowledge about the modifiable risk factors for the comorbidity among university students, as well as the mediating effects of the two comorbid conditions on the risk factors. This knowledge will be essential in the development of effective health promotion and preventive measures against the comorbidity.
